Cassina Armchair Description
The Cassina Utrecht Armchair has a history. Dutch architect and designer Gerrit Thomas Rietveld created the Utrecht armchair in 1935, originally for a department store in Amsterdam called Metz&Co. He named the armchair after the city in which he was born. He was one of the best-known architects associate with the “De Stijl” movement, also including many artists such as Piet Mondrian and Theo van Doesburg. The characteristics of this movement were to break things down into basic visual elements, such as geometric forms and primary colors. His goal with the Utrecht armchair was to create a market-oriented product for comfort and relaxation. Cassina began production in 1988 and again in 2015.
Today, the Cassina Utrecht Armchair is a popular option for designer Italian interiors. There are many options for armchairs by Cassina, but the Cassina Utrecht has a unique story worth investing in and bringing into your home interiors. Cassina Utrecht Armchair Features
Only the most important Italian design furniture pieces are presented in Cassina’s master’s collection. “I Maestri” includes the Utrecht armchair for its artistic and architectural significance. This product is an absolutely visual piece with wonderfully geometric design, strong lines, and shapes that define, rather than hide, the different elements of the chair. The exposed stitching of the armchair gives an artisanal effect.
Utrecht Armchair Materials
The steel supporting frame of the Cassina Utrecht armchair is softened with polyurethane foam and polyester padding. This armchair can be chosen from a large array of different colors as well as materials (fabric or leather), which offer varied textures. The exposed stitching is available in a saddle stitch or a zig-zag stitch, also in various colors.
For Cassina’s 90th anniversary, two reimaginations of the Utrecht are available in limited edition. The first, entitled “Point” was created in collaboration with fashion designer Paul Smith for Maharam by Kundrat. The second was made by artist Bertjan Pot to celebrate Dutch creativity with fabric by BoxBlocks.
Cassina Utrecht Armchair Compositions
There are two dimensions to choose from for this armchair. This collection also has two options for a sofa with either a straight of a curved, available as a 2 or 3-seater. The Utrecht armchair would best fit a contemporary or modern ambience. There is also a petite version of the armchair called the Baby Utrecht.
