The Latest Italian furniture design from Supersalone: the Milan furniture fair 2021

The highly anticipated grand event of the Milan Furniture Fair has recently come to a close. The  special 2021 edition, which had the aim of revitalizing Milan’s economy in the post-Covid-19 era, was presented  in a new format: the Supersalone.

A reduced and concentrated fair format compared to the past editions, but ready to welcome visitors as in a great library of design, the story of 425 companies, reporting novelties, reissues and great classics in an almost anthological catalog that can be covered in chapters.

At the center of the spatial organization of this edition of the “Supersalone” we find the concept of proximity: the design brings us closer and the project-object is placed at the center of the narrative that enhances the culture of the product. A completely different approach from the previous editions where the focus was more on total living rather than the single element. An event that in its new configuration knows how to give us back space, allowing the right time, to the analytical observation of the object.

Esperiri is here to show you the novelties presented in this 2021 edition, which was a bit different from what we are used to. Many are the Italian Design brands that stood out among the others thanks to their technological innovation and attention to sustainability. Milan Design Week 2021: the Most important News among Italian furniture brands

Cassina

With the same revolutionary spirit thanks to which the Soriana sofa was conceived and designed in 1969 by Afra and Tobia Scarpa, today at Milan Design Week 2021, Cassina is presenting Soriana in an eco-sustainable version, which projects it into the present without renouncing the revolutionary look that distinguished this icon. And it is from this concept of a sofa out of the ordinary that the installation “Out of Ordinary” was born, a project curated by Vogue Italia. The set designer Laura Tocchet conceived this installation as a daily situation of social interaction, in which the myths of the past dialogue with characters and objects linked to the contemporary world.

Soriana thus becomes more and more contemporary and relates perfectly to the icons of the present, such as the new products designed by Patricia Urquiola and presented in this edition of Milan Furniture Fair 2021. The Dudet small armchair that evokes the 70s and expresses conviviality, paired and in dialogue with Sengu table, a monumental round table that celebrates the union of different materials and shapes.

Molteni&C

In a new and unusual context compared to the standards of all past editions of the annual Salone del Mobile event in Milan, Molteni&C is certainly the brand that has best interpreted the new concept conceived by Stefano Boeri and Andrea Caputo.

What won over the public was the creative mind of Ron Gilad, who devised a scenario in which the visitor can feel totally immersed. A flight on an airplane that smells of luxury and the 60s, snuggled up in a Round D.154.5 chair and ready to fly as never before.

Salvatori

In an interminable period ruled by lockdown and a lot of distress, creative director Gabriele Salvatori gave life to an archetypal miniature village able to reflect the multiculturality of our reality. So he contacted designers and architects from all over the world to ask them to represent their own personal concept of home. A central theme in the current reflections on the concept of domestic habitat, a person’s own home is no longer a place of passage but increasingly an extension of their own being.

Among the novelties of Milan Furniture fair 2021, Salvatori also presented two new textures signed by Elisa Ossino and Piero Lissoni, as well as a series of tables and coffee tables, born from the new collaboration with Patricia Urquiola, named Taula. The Spanish designer, playing with the materiality of marble and managing to break down the heaviness of stone, has created a table that seems to float on its vertical support.

Fornasetti

Presented on the occasion of Milan Design Week 2021, the new Antichità Contemporanea collection tells us of a journey through time, in which marble busts, antique keys and 15th century facades celebrate the myth of the classical style and the Renaissance, intertwining with optical details and lines in modern taste. Fornasetti never cease to amaze the public with their imagination and offer us a journey to the boundaries of classical history and design.

Poltrona Frau

In the Milan showroom located in via Manzoni 30, Poltrona Frau presents to the public its first collections designed for living without boundaries between indoors and outdoors. Two families of products make their debut in the world of Outdoor Living.

The quality and timeless elegance that have always distinguished the company are also echoed in the outdoor collection, which maintains a domestic and comfortable image.

Edra

Edra’s showroom welcomes its visitors In the baroque rooms of the ”piano nobile” of Palazzo Durini in Milan, displaying its entire collection of sofas and furnishing accessories under the evocative frescoed ceilings of seventeenth-century Lombardy.

New for 2021 is an outdoor collection designed by artist-designer Jacopo Foggini, called A’mare, a pun that evokes Naples, the sea and the Italian summer. Transparent and reflective like glass and fluid and pure like the sea. An ambitious and experimental collection consisting of tables, chairs, armchairs and loungers made of pure methacrylate slats, an industrial material used in automotive design.

B&B Italia

The latest 2021 proposal for B&B Italia is the Noonu line designed by Antonio Citterio, a system of upholstered furniture that develops the theme of the “formation of an atoll”: the four basic elements of the seat, appropriately combined, generate real floating islands, corners of pure relaxation among the colors of the Maldives.

The basic elements of the sofa are available in two innovative shapes, in addition to the traditional square and rectangular ones: “sail” with a rounded volume in the front; and “piano”, with a wide welcoming curve on the backrest. Antonio Citterio has designed them as natural chaise longues, true evolutions of the peninsula module, new organic forms devoted to total relaxation, as in the natural environment of the special places from which Noonu takes its name.

Giorgetti

Among the latest novelties in contemporary Italian furniture design, we can’t forget to mention Giorgetti, which presents the new collections 2021 both at the fair and in its stores in Milan. The Milanese spaces welcome the new products of the company in a perfect aesthetic balance,  offering comforting, soft and elegant atmospheres. Roberto Lazzeroni has designed the new Vesper sofa, a system with organic shapes that is able to transform the space around it with fluidity and lightness.

Other novelties provide solutions to the theme of outdoor life, which Giorgetti interprets with a project by Carlo Colombo. Aldia is a complete system of furniture that can adapt to both outdoor and indoor spaces.

Furthermore, in their stand at Milan Furniture fair 2021, Giorgetti celebrates the iconic rocking chair Move, designed by Raffaella Pugliatti, with a suspended decomposition that is a display of craftsmanship and technological research. An installation that shows the production system and the Italian character of the brand.

Arflex

Arflex, always engaged in constant research work, presents 9000 by Tito Agnoli, a compact and round seating system that allows the creation of different configurations. The small dimensions and the easy modularity represent a valid solution to different furnishing problems both for the home and for collective environments.

9000 is a project born in 1969 when the market needs aimed at mini and versatile furniture, designed for compact and multitasking domestic spaces. The modules are composed of armchair, element with an armrest, without armrests, angular, curved and pouf.

Flou

A hymn to life, a celebration of emotions in all their different aspects, this is what Flou wants to convey with the new 2021 collection. A journey through all the shades and environments that nature offers, a perfect combination of colors and shapes to discover how immediate is the association between perception and experience in each of us. A collection of products with harmonious lines, created to leave a mark both in form and materials. Nature and its forms are once again the absolute protagonists.

The fresh format will see a tightly edited version of the best elements of a typical Salone del Mobile showcase, bolstered with fresh and inspiring add-ons. This will all be presented as a scenographic display where companies will be able to show their best work from the past 18 months: a unique and special moment to discover the latest in design.
