Venice, la Serenissima, is a unique city in the world!
Its beauties together with its mystical and solemn atmosphere make this city and the surrounding lagoon fully live up to the title of “World Heritage Site” given to it by UNESCO.
So if you are planning a trip to Venice and are looking for luxury accommodation, you are spoilt for choice!
However, not all the luxury hotels Venice has to offer are the same.
Some have chosen to decline the concept of hospitality in a more “totalizing” form, embracing every aspect of comfort, starting with the pleasing of the eye and soul given by luxury design: the art of “living life as a work of art,” as our poet Gabriele d’Annunzio would say.
Therefore, Esperiri‘s editorial staff has selected some of the most exclusive luxury hotels that Venice hosts among its canals.
5 design luxury hotels Venice has to offer
The selection of luxury design hotels proposed here, in addition to the excellence of the services offered, has favored the artistic approach and that does not only concern interior design but every aspect of the stay, in what is a true “total aesthetic experience”.
And after all, what better way to experience a city of art as unique as Venice than to immerse oneself completely, in every moment of the day and night, in the beauty and culture Made in Italy?
Luxury hotels in Venice: to Rialto Bridge
Rialto Bridge is the oldest of the four bridges on the Grand Canal in the city of Venice, connecting the districts of San Marco and San Polo.
To get to the district of San Polo, this little “tour” starts from the district of Dorsoduro where you can find (to name just a few!) the Ca’Dario Palace, a beautiful historic palace over which hovers a legend of a curse; and the Campo San Barnaba, which was one of the locations of the movie “Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade“.
Palazzo Experimental
Located in the heart of the district of Dorsoduro, Palazzo Experimental is one of the finest luxury hotels Venice hosts among its canals.
Palazzo Experimental features thirty-two refined luxury interior design proposals (rooms and suites) all of which are based on contemporary re-proposals of centuries-old Venetian aesthetics.
As such, there is skillful use of shades of sky blue, cream and red, paired with an even more skillful management of lighting, which takes full advantage of the sleek elegance and mysticism given by the tall ogive windows.
All of this contributes to creating a delicate, almost oriental atmosphere in each room, perfectly accompanied by the evocative panorama of Venice.
To top it off, there is also a renowned restaurant on the ground floor, the Experimental Cocktail Club, shaped by the mind of Italian designer Cristina Celestino, a collaborator of Fendi and many other brands in the field of fashion and design.
Last but not least, there are a couple of pearls that you don’t really want to miss in this district.
The first is the Peggy Guggenheim Collection, one of the most important and prestigious art collections in the world, put together by its American patron Marguerite Guggenheim, known as Peggy, who was friends with important avant-garde artists such as Man Ray, author of the famous photograph of the “cello woman“; Peggy did also posed as a model for Ray.
The second, just minutes from the Peggy Guggenheim collection, is the Accademia Gallery, simply the world’s largest collection of Venetian and Veneto painting, with works by the greatest masters in art history such as Mantegna.
Aman Venice
Aman Venice is headquartered in Palazzo Papadopoli, a shining example of Renaissance architecture located in the district of San Polo, and it directly overlooks the Grand Canal, Venice’s main canal.
In accordance with Aman’s ethos , the service has to be top-notch and its highlight is the Grand Canal Suite, which enjoys an exclusive and privileged view of the Grand Canal, from which it takes its name.
And it is worth mentioning that, among the brands chosen by Aman’s management for the furnishings, the one that stands out is the luxury brand B&B Italia.
The interior of the Grand Canal Suite is an extraordinary example of a lavish but not opulent lifestyle.
Its style mixes modern and Art Nouveau, and the overall view between the interiors and the view outside makes you feel completely immersed in the history and beauty of Made in Italy.
Here, too, the design approach to lighting returns with the preference for nuances such as brownish, golden, and anthracite, which blend perfectly with natural light.
Truly one of the best design luxury hotels Venice has to offer!
And if you’re wondering where to dine, the answer is undoubtedly the exclusive Michelin-starred restaurant Wistèria.

Luxury hotels in Venice: descending from the Rialto Bridge
Descending from the Rialto Bridge we find ourselves in the district of San Marco, the original core of the Serenissima.
A little curiosity: originally the district of San Marco was called “Rivoalto,” hence the name of the bridge, and in fact the city of Venice was formerly known as Civitas Rivoalti.
Palazzina Grassi
The luxury hotel Palazzina Grassi is the only hotel in Italy designed by internationally renowned architect and designer Philippe Starck, who has collaborated with many luxury brands including B&B Italia.
Palazzina Grassi is located in the district of San Marco, and is situated between the famous Piazza San Marco and the Rialto Bridge.
The building includes twenty-five rooms and suites, and Cassina is the luxury brand that stands out for their furnishings.
Palazzina Grassi‘s sophisticated interior design makes the most of the potential of the white palette, in all its brightest and most welcoming nuances.
Undoubtedly Philippe Starck knows how to decorate with glass, light, and the draperies of curtains to create a delicate atmosphere suspended in time, as placid as the water flowing through the canals of Venice.
Should it be of interest, Philippe Starck has also designed an ultra-exclusive restaurant for Massimiliano Alajmo, whose origins are not too far from Venice and who was awarded three Michelin Stars at only 28 years old; he and his brother Raffaele run the restaurant Amo, inside the courtyard of a historic palace: the Fondaco dei Tedeschi.
Radisson Collection Hotel Palazzo Nani Venice
Leaving the district of San Marco behind, we arrive in the nearby district of Cannaregio where, near the Ghetto, we find Palazzo Nani, home to a renowned design hotel in Venice: the Radisson.
Born from the mind of the great Marco Piva, an architect and designer who boasts many illustrious collaborations including one with the Italian luxury brand Poltrona Frau.
Palazzo Nani is a stately building from the 16th century of great artistic interest, as well as historical and archaeological: just think that remains of Roman floors were found during the renovation.
The Radisson Palazzo Nani has as many as fifty-two rooms and suites, and three private apartments.
Of course, such a unique and valuable decor could not simply be discarded, which is why the interior design particularly stands out for the complex balance between past and present, between luxury design and the aesthetic legacy of the Venetian Renaissance.
A balance also achieved with the selection of furniture, among which the Italian brand Arflex stands out.
In short, we are talking about one of those exclusive luxury hotels in Venice where you have the impression of going back in time, amidst the glitz and exoticism of the Serenissima.
Being in the district of San Marco, of course you cannot miss the chance to see the splendid Basilica of San Marco, nicknamed the Golden Church.
Looking more like a Turkish mosque than a Christian church, the reason for its nickname comes from the Treasure of St. Mark: a collection of 238 precious objects that was put together over the centuries to enrich the Basilica itself.
In fact, many objects come from Constantinople, capital of the Eastern Roman Empire, today known as Istanbul, the capital of Turkey.
Ca’ di Dio
We finally reach the district of Castello, the largest and the only one not overlooking the Grand Canal.
Here, on the Riva degli Schiavoni, stands the historic building Ca’ di Dio, whose name is a contraction of “House of God“, which was, the name given to those places that offered asylum to pilgrims on their way to Jerusalem.
The interior design was directed by Patricia Urquiola, a renowned architect and designer who has collaborated with many luxury brands such as Agape and B&B Italia.
For this luxury design hotel, Urquiola opted for a concept of continuity of the artistic soul of Venice within the building itself.
To realize her vision, Urquiola selected some of the best luxury furniture brands, including Molteni&C.
So not only the aesthetic approach but also the logistical one is openly in dialogue with the lagoon city: in fact, Urquiola chose to employ Iranian travertine, Orcia stone, and floor lamps produced with artisanal methods in Murano, the land of luxury glass.
Among the many points of interest in the district, it is worth mentioning a truly unique place: the Acqua Alta bookstore: it owes its name to the idea the owner had, and that is to protect books from the danger of flooding or inundation by arranging them on boats, gondolas and other supports that can float in case water floods the rooms.
It is a really picturesque and pretty place, there is even a staircase made of books originally destined to pulping, from which you can enjoy an “alternative” view of the Venetian canals.
